Helter skelter

Do you ever experience the odd, kind of disappointing, embarrassing moment when you realize that your high expectation of friendship is not mutual? That doesn't describe it really well. Hmm. When you think you are really good friends with someone and then you see them and you're totally let down because they don't think you're very good friends? Does that make sense? Well that has happened to me a lot lately, and I'm trying to figure out why this happens. I've come up with several contributing factors:

  • I read someone's blog and know everything that is going on in their life, but I forget that they don't really know me very well. So my view of our friendship is a little skewed.
  • I was young when I met someone, too young for them to pay attention to me, but I felt like I knew them really well because I observe people a lot and get a much better feel for their personality than they do for mine. And then I feel like I really know them well and they still never really knew who I was.
  • Boys go on missions and some reason I just assume that we are great friends and that it will be so wonderful when they get back, and then they come back and it is such a let down. For some reason I think we're such good friends when in reality we aren't. However, that has just happened with cousins so far, none of my good guy friends have come back yet. It's coming up so soon though and I'm so excited! But I hope it's better than my previous experience has been...
Basically I guess I just need to stop exaggerating my friendship level with people. Oh well.....
